ROBOTICS season is underway ...

Western Technical-Commercial School students participate in the highest level of robotics competition offered by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Our students team up with the world’s best technology companies to build the most impressive robots you’ve ever seen. Built from scratch in only 6 weeks, these 5 foot tall, 140 pound robots compete in high intensity robo-sports. With bragging rights at stake for schools and the companies that support them, robotics takes on a pro-sports experience. Watch the best of the best in robotics come out to play.

Students who participate will get to:

  • Learn from professional engineers;
  • Build and compete with a robot of their own design;
  • Learn and use sophisticated software and hardware;
  • Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments;
  • Earn a place in the World Championship;
  • and Qualify for over $16 million in college scholarships

“The varsity sport for the mind,” FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 15 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get.

Join the fun by coming to see Mr. Halling in room 274 or by speaking with any WARP7 team member.

Literacy for Life

Literacy is a fundamental life skill that is essential for young people if they are to achieve success in life. Students who have well-developed reading and writing skills will be better prepared not only for their future educational careers but also for the world of work. A greater focus on literacy means more opportunities for our students.

In Grade 10, students take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), which measures whether or not they are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.

Feb 12th - Practice literacy test
March 25th to 28th - Literacy test preparation workshops
